DAYBREAKERS (2009)

“What if…” I think Hollywood’s movies always begin with “What if…” Thiz time, what if all human on thiz planet already has become vampires. They drink blood for their daily meal. The crisis starts when blood resources dwindled. The real flesh and human blood are near extinction. Thiz alternate world is directed by Michael and Peter Spierig. Ethan Hawke plays as Edward, the hematologist who tries to discover synthetic blood. The premise is good but the execution is on question mark. Thirty minutes in the beginning of the movie is exciting but downhill until the end. The actions are on B-Class level. The direction and editing are outdated. It looks like 1980s or 1990s movies. It’s not the best of Ethan Hawke. His moral interest which is helping human or defending his own kinds could have been developed more. Willem Dafoe just fills the Rock ‘n’ Roll character in thiz movie, although he brings a good comical and fun character. It’s Sam Neill who gives a better vampire appeal as cold-hearted CEO. There’s something bother me in thiz film. There are too many smoking scenes. During thiz two decades (since 1990s), Hollywood’s movies have been reducing the smoking scenes. Personally, I strongly oppose these smoking scenes to be brought back to the screens again. Tell me, not all of us already turn out to be vampires. And tell me, not all of vampires named Edward.

Just for your information, this is not a hollywood movie. It's an Australian movie, filmed in Australia with Australian directors and an all-Australian cast (apart from Hawke and DaFoe) and it is financed by the Australian Film Industry.
So no, not just Hollywood movies begin with "what if..."
