WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (2009)

Everyone has a childhood fantasy. Thiz movie reminds us how to be a child, where we can escape into our own world. It comes from a Maurice Sendak’s famous fable. One night, a little boy has conflict with his mother. And then he runs away from home. On his solitude, he lives in his own fantasy, interacts with the characters he made up, and finds himself the meaning of life. The movie is directed by eccentric music video Director, Spike Jonze. Jonze has directed many famous musicians like Björk, Beastie Boys, Fatboy Slim and other musicians. My favorite is Fatboy Slim’s music video “Weapon of Choice”. His honorable directing credits are “Being john Malkovich” (1999) and “Adaptation” (2002). Thiz movie takes us to a child’s point of view which is simple and naive. I always like Jonze’s hand-held camera techniques. It’s very dynamic and effective to describe the surrealism in each of his movies. The boy is perfectly performed by Max Records. The boy’s monster friends are voiced by many well-known Actors like James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker, Paul Dano, Chris Cooper and many more. The other Cast members are Mark Rufallo and Catherine Keener as the father and mother. In the beginning, I have hesitancy that the monsters will be appeared too scary based on original concept. But after I have watched it, actually the monsters are very lovable and funny. My favorite scene is "Throwing Dirt" scene. The Score and Soundtracks support each other in every scene. In overall, it is not a perfect movie for children, but it is definitely a must-see thoughtful movie for all of us as an adult.
